2. Main Program Details
So that you know what you can expect to receive if you purchase this
extraordinary software, we have included a fairly detailed explanation
of its features below.
The first thing we'd like to say is that, unlike some research software,
once you have installed the program on your computer, you don't need to have
the CD in your computer in order to use the program. It installs all the
required files to your hard disk.
The program's Main Form contains four Views. These views are as follows:
Search View – To search for text in the Holy Scriptures, the
endnotes, or both.
Reference Lookup View – To quickly locate a specific passage of Holy Scripture.
Outline View – To study the outline of the Holy Scriptures, highlighting entire stories, parables, or other related passages.
Parallel Gospel View – To study the Chronological Gospel Parallels.
The Main Form contains several panels, containing different types of information. You may elect to hide most of these panels. All of these panels may be resized by placing your mouse over the "splitter" between each set of panels (the cursor will change when your mouse is positioned over it), and dragging the panels to the position you would like.
The Control Panel is located in the top left hand corner of the Main Form. The uppermost portion of the Control Panel changes depending on what view you are in.
The Control Panel "drives" most of the program. Below the uppermost portion of the Control Panel is a grid, containing Scripture passages or other information. There is always one item selected in the grid. All of the information in the other panels are synchronized to it. Changing or clicking on the selected item in the grid will
1) Bring that related item to the top of the Scripture panel(s), and change its color to blue (default).
2) If there are endnotes for that item, it will bring them to the top of the Endnotes panel(s), and change its color to blue (default). If there are no endnotes for that item, it will bring the endnote for the closest previous item to the top, but will leave its color as black (default).
3) If the selected item Concords with other Scripture passages, it will display it in the Concordance panel.
4) If there is an icon or other image related to that passage, it will display that image. If there is no image related specifically to that item, it will display the image for the closest previous item that has an image related to it.
5) It will update the information in the Status Bars at the bottom of the Main Form.
The Scripture Panel is located at the top of the Middle panel of the Main Form. This contains the entire book of the Holy Scriptures for the active record. For instance, if the active record is a passage from the Gospel of Saint Matthew, it will contain the entire book of Saint Matthew. The passage for the active record should be blue (default), and brought up to the top of the Scripture Panel.
The Endnotes Panel is located at the bottom of the Middle panel of the Main Form, just below the Scripture Panel. This contains the Endnotes of The Orthodox New Testament. As with the Scripture Panel, it contains all of the endnotes of the book of Holy Scriptures for the active record.
If the active record has one or more endnotes assigned to it, they will be brought to the top of the Endnotes Panel, and highlighted in blue (default).
If the active record does not have any endnotes assigned to it, the closest previous endnote will be brought to the top of the Endnotes Panel, but will not be highlighted. Oftentimes, although not highlighted, you will find the endnotes very near to the passage of the active record will contain pertinent information to the active record.
The Concordance Panel contains Holy Scriptures or Endnotes that concord with the active record. At times this panel may be blank, indicating that there are not any passages that directly concord with the active record. If there are passages that concord with the active record, there may be several sets of Scripture passages shown in this panel, depending on how many other passages concord with the active panel.
Due to limited space on the screen with which to display the various panels, we have chosen to make the Concordance Panel show either the Holy Scriptures, or the Endnotes, but not both at once. There are two buttons in the Status Bar just below the Concordance Panel which will allow you to switch between viewing the Holy Scriptures or the Endnotes.
The Image Panel shows the icon for the passage for the active record, or for the closest previous passage that has an icon assigned to it.
If you right-click on the Image Panel, it will bring up a popup menu which will allow you to copy the image to the clipboard so you can paste it into other documents. This popup menu will also allow you to show an Image Viewer Form. With this form, you can see all of the icons in a larger format, search for specific icons, etc.
If you place your mouse over the Image Panel for a few seconds without clicking on it, the program will display a small "hint" which contains information about the icon.
There are approximately 365 icons in The Orthodox New Testament. Most are in color. Some are black and white. Others are two-toned, usually with a reddish color. The icons vary greatly in quality, as most are ancient icons.
We have provided all of the icons that are included in The Orthodox New Testament in this program. They are in a format which is just good enough to use in most word processors if kept within approximately three inches. If you try to enlarge them more than this, they will probably not be of acceptable quality.
All of the images are available at high quality file formats as a special order item, at a minimal cost. Likewise, they are also available as special order mounted icons for a slightly higher cost than our regular icons. If ordering any of these icons mounted, please keep in mind that there will be a delay in making them, so allow at least three or four weeks for delivery.
Most of the functionality of the program can be initiated from the Tool Bar, located at the top of the Main Form, just below the Menu. We think the Tool Bar is the easiest way to Navigate through this program. It provides a nice, visual way to see the different features of the program. All of the items on the Toolbar are also located in the Menu.
The Status Bars are located along the bottom of the Main Program form. They give a variety of information about both the program and about the Scripture passage for the active record.
